Alex and Kat met in the winter of 2021, and have been attached at the hip ever since. After both spending a few years doing their due diligence of dating around, Alex had recently moved back to New York from Boston—originally planning to stay only briefly. Within just a few weeks of returning, he and Kat matched on Hinge.
On their first date, they were both caught off guard by how much they had in common. They worked in the same industry—footwear—both had sisters named Melanie with November birthdays, shared a love for James Blake as both of their favorite artist (Kat was convinced he was either joking or psychic), and even had Dominican roots.
When a new COVID strain forced them to cancel their second date, Alex improvised. He arranged a surprise FaceTime dinner, sending Kat her favorite meal straight to her apartment—a small detail she hadn’t expected him to remember. After a few initial dates Alex decided to stay New York to continue to see things through. Not long after, they took a trip to Miami, where he asked her to be his girlfriend—and here we are now! We truly cannot wait to celebrate this next chapter with you.
Why Portugal?
We got engaged in October 2024 and celebrated in Portugal the week after. We visited Porto, Douro Valley, Ericeira and finally, Lisbon — eating and drinking our way through — and completely fell in the love with the country. Normally at the end of a long trip abroad we’re ready to go back home to our routines, but for the first time we weren’t ready, and felt pulled to stay longer. We soaked in every last minute, and knew for sure that we’d be back!
